For our customers it is an important – and sometimes even legally required – precondition for having their products accepted in different markets, that the reports and thus the independent testing and inspections services provided by Holzforschung Austria are accepted and recognized. Starting in 1955 the authorisation for the local market was sufficient; however following the implementation of EWR, the accreditation as a testing and inspection institute (acc. EN ISO/IEC 17025 und EN ISO/IEC 17020) constituted the basic requirements for the European and international recognition.
For the period since 1955 the so called authorization was sufficient for the domestic market. This has been changed with the implementation of the EEA. Accreditation (now acc. AkkG 2012 on the basis of EN ISO/IEC 17025, EN ISO / IEC 17020 and EN ISO/IEC 17065) as a test, inspection and certification body (PIZ-Body) is a basic requirement of European and international recognition.
Holzforschung Austria is accredited by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy of the Republic of Austria (BMWFW) .
Within the framework of the European Construction Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) no. 305/2011) Holzforschung Austria is also notified as a testing laboratory and a product certification body (Notified Body 1359 see Nando). So testing and certification for obtaining the right to affix the CE mark on all relevant products of the wooden sector can be provided.
Since 2005 Holzforschung Austria is also verification center for electronic roundwood measurement systems and is therefore partly responsible for the functioning of these sensitive interface between forestry and sawmill industry. The authorization is carried out by the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV).
Holzforschung Austira´s authorisation as a testing and certification institute by the Deutsche Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) facilitates the placing of specific building products from local producers on the German market.
Aside from the aforementioned authorisations, Holzforschung Austria is recognised as a testing and/or inspection body for various products by DIN CERTCO and the West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau (WCLIB) respectively.
The authorisation as a Third Party Testing Ogranisation (TTO) via Norsk Treteknisk Insititutt (NTI) is an important condition for the JAS certification and thus the export of local glued laminated timber to Japan.
In September 2008 Holzforschung Austria was approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as a Thrid Party Certifiers (TPC). This enables HFA to provide certification services for particleboard, MDF and hardwood plywood in accordance with the Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emission from Composites Wood Products.
