Upgrading of various biomass fractions, process optimisation for pellet production, as well as development of new solid energy carriers are the main objective of the biomass pilot plant, operated by Holzforschung Austria.
A complete modular process chain with an output of approximately 250kg/h covering comminution, fractioning, drying, conditioning and pellet production is available. The processes can be scaled to an industrial level.
Several projects were successfully finished since opening of the biomass pilot plant. Topics covered were agricultural residues, blending and application of additives, wood drying, reduction of emissions, process optimisation and product development.
The biomass pilot plant was founded in 2013 as a cooperation between the three institutes of Austrian Cooperative Research (ACR) - Holzforschung Austria (HFA), OFI and Österreichischer Kachelofenverband (KOV). We kindly acknowledge the great cooperation with our former project partners.
Almost five years later, the biomass pilot plant is now standing on its own feet. By the end of November operation at the facility of OFI will be finalised and rebooted at a new site in the course of 2018. We will be on your disposal even during this time.
