For more than 70 years, Holzforschung Austria has been a reliable partner for all companies in the wood industry. As a not-for-profit research institution, we support both large and small companies in the development and market launch of innovative products.
As a practice-oriented institute, we deal with the entire value chain in the wood sector. Our competence ranges from wood storage in the forest via wood processing all the way to concrete applications such as glued laminated timber, windows, or multi-storey timber construction. Related disciplines such as surface technology, wood protection, bioenergy, cellulose, fittings technology, fasteners and adhesive technology are permanent components of our work as well.
We are not only accredited and notified for all relevant testing and inspection procedures in the field of wood processing, but also recognized for all relevant certification systems in the wood sector. Along with our knowledge of the latest developments, we are therefore the ideal partner in matters of quality assurance and as independent experts. Our experts convey their specialist knowledge to the industry at our industry meetings, information seminars and courses.
We enable innovation
Holzforschung Austria supports small and large companies in the implementation of innovative research projects. We work for our customers as an external research and development department and contribute our experience in the submission of projects to relevant research funding institutions. The fastest way to get a certificate
In the area of conformity assessment (testing, inspection and certification), we are accredited by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW) for all relevant procedures. Our reports and certificates are internationally recognized.
Since 2006, Holzforschung Austria has been authorized by the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV) as a calibration centre for round timber measuring systems. Our experts prepare expert's reports and are active in national and international standardisation committees.
Lead through knowledge
Through our knowledge transfer, we pass the generated knowledge back into the industry. We conduct specialist seminars and courses for training and further education within our HFA-Akademy. Our experts not only impart knowledge through lectures, but also by writing specialist articles in relevant industry media and specialist magazines. Our HFA magazine bundles the knowledge generated at the institute in an easy-to-read form.

The HFA is also a member of the association of cooperative research institutes of the Austrian economy: Austrian Cooperative Research (ACR).
