In the area of low-energy and passive houses, the focus of energetic optimisation has shifted towards cooling in summer and ventilation of rooms. In particular with new buildings without ventilation systems, there are often increased concentrations of air pollutants that can also be emitted from various building materials.

The aim of the project was to investigate the indoor air quality of different types of wood and various ways of positively influencing air quality. Based on a large number of material measurements, two 1:1 model rooms (30 m³) were built with different wall cladding materials, in which the long-term emission behaviour under real conditions could be examined for the first time.
