The objective of the project is to evaluate the suitability of climate-resilient tree species for processing by the wood-processing industry. Based on the results, recommendations for their cultivation are to be developed for the forestry sector, taking ecological and economic aspects into account. The work carried out by Holzforschung Austria includes the characterization of roundwood and sawn timber, the determination of strength properties in comparison with established tree species, and the preparation of sample material for paper technology investigations. More than 2,000 boards and approximately 100 m³ of wood chips were produced from seven tree species.
