research area: Building & living
project status: ongoing

In the Mindwood project, novel moisture sensors are developed that are printed directly onto the wood surface by an inkjet process. This allows large scale moisture monitoring of buildings. Machine learning algorithms will use the data generated by the moisture sensors to determine the need for intervention of a specific building component. In wood constructions, high wood moisture content for longer periods of time promotes infestations by fungi, leading to severe damages of the wooden structures. Hence, early detection of moisture build-up is highly beneficial for the service life of wooden buildings.
