The biocides available in wood protection are facing increasing restrictions by European legislation. As part of the “Terpenguard” research project, Holzforschung Austria is investigating terpenoid- and resin-containing biogenic raw materials, such as residues from the spice industry, wood harvesting, and wood drying. The extracts obtained are researched for their suitability as alternatives or synergistic additives for biocides in wood preservatives.
