This project aims at establishing criteria which will allow the identification of particularly low-emitting wood-based products. The range of parameters considered within these criteria spans the range from factors relating to wood-species and growth conditions to factors relating to the processing of the raw material “wood”. Within this project a particular emphasis will be placed on the toxicological evaluation of the volatile substances which are emitted from wood. Research results will be utilized to establish a system for evaluating the volatile organic substances emitted from wood products. This system will facilitate the manufacturing low-emitting products.
