One step ahead
Holzforschung Austria has been the only institute dealing with the entire value chain for more than 70 years – starting with wood storage in the forest via wood processing through to a wide variety of products. Related disciplines such as surface coatings, wood preservatives and adhesives are dealt with as well.
The research area is practice-oriented. The projects are carried out in close cooperation with small and large companies; we often work for our customers as their external research and development department. Our specialists cover a wide range of subjects; topics concerning several areas are dealt with in an interdisciplinary manner. HFA is also a member of the association of cooperative research institutes of the Austrian economy – Austrian Cooperative Research (ACR). In the area of conformity assessment (testing, inspection and certification), we are accredited by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy for all relevant procedures.

Our extensive knowledge transfer activity also encompasses all types of specialist publications with which we bring current knowledge of all aspects of wood as a raw material and construction material into the wood industry. In our specialist brochures, users will find specific knowledge for their daily work which our specialists have prepared in a comprehensive and interdisciplinary manner. The great advantage lies in the wide range of topics that extends from all construction aspects of multi-storey timber construction via maintenance instructions for wooden surfaces and wooden windows all the way to special aspects such as terraces. The conference proceedings of our HFA industry seminars contain detailed technical contributions from proven specialists from all over the D-A-CH region. In addition, we also provide you with a large number of free downloads.
