In addition to the manufacture of standard-compliant, bonded timber construction products, such as glulam, finger-jointed solid timber and cross-laminated timber, bonding work, such as the bonding of steel rods and steel sheets or the attachment of reinforcements, is also necessary during the construction and maintenance of timber structures. The course “Holz Kleben: Holz-Stahlverbindungen und Verstärkungen” organised by Holzforschung Austria covers this topic in detail in theory and practice.
Details
Contents
The two-day course deals with the bonding of steel bars and steel sheets as well as the attachment of reinforcements. This bonding work has not yet been standardised at European level, but it is of eminent importance for the functionality of the supporting structure. In Austria, this bonding work is regulated in the national annex to the Eurocode of ÖNORM B 1995-1-1, Annex L. However, trained personnel are required to carry out this work.
The course covers the production of load-bearing bonded joints in the form of bonded reinforcements, bonded-in steel components and composite components that are not regulated in the harmonised standards. In addition to imparting basic knowledge of wood technology and adhesive technology, as well as the legal framework conditions, the programme also includes practical units on the implementation of bonded joints.
Participants & training
The two-day course is aimed at engineers, responsible persons and employees of carpentry and timber construction companies who produce load-bearing adhesive joints in the course of the construction and maintenance of buildings. It is a training programme for the employees of the companies carrying out the work and serves as proof of the personnel training required by ÖNORM B 1995-1-1.
Due to the objective of the course, the number of participants is limited to 25 so that all participants can carry out the gluing work themselves. Participants must bring suitable clothing for carrying out the gluing work.
